OpenID Authentication

Logging in to your Galaxy account using an OpenID (you probably already have one) is simple. Currently, OpenID is enabled on Galaxy Test and will soon be enabled on Galaxy Main. You can log in with OpenID regardless of whether you have an existing Galaxy account. To get started, choose "Login" from Galaxy's "User" menu:

OpenID Login Page

The URL field will take any valid OpenID identifier. Alternatively, you can choose to use your account at one of the sites pre-populated in the drop-down box. Your OpenID provider (after logging in to your provider, if you aren't already logged in) will then ask you for your permission to allow Galaxy to use your OpenID:

OpenID Provider Verification

Most providers will give you the option to remember your choice, myOpenID labels this as "Skip this skip next time." Choosing this option will obviate the need for any password or verification on subsequent logins, until your OpenID provider requires you to log in again. Once verified, you can associate your OpenID with an existing Galaxy account by entering that account's login details, or choose to create a new account:

OpenID Account Association

In your account preferences, you can choose to disassociate any associated OpenIDs, or associate more:

OpenID Management

OpenID authentication can be enabled in local installations of Galaxy by setting enable_openid = True in universe_wsgi.ini
